The name of the Village
Knockbridge is the name of the Village,
On the map it does not show very plain,
But the spirit is high in the Village,
That stands on the hill oer the Fane.
There is football and dancing and talent,
All thrown in for good fun,
And in the school I.C.A hold their meeting,
They have a chat and a cuppa and a bun.
There is also a pub in the Village,
Some good characters there you will find,
Some of the lies you will hear in the company,
Are not likely to cause any noise.
There is also a shop in the Village,
And the Grocer his name is Pat,
You go in for a loaf in the evening,
And Pat is all set for a chat.
Now the Village has surely extended,
Since Lisheen has arrived on the scene,
Now the occupants there are some strangers,
But they mix in very well with the old team,
They say they are paying a high price,
From the moment they lifted the latch,
What a change from the new – to the old one,
On the other side they were covered in thatch.
In the Village there is a Grain Drier,
It was built to the Farmer’s delight,
But the neighbours all say it’s an eye sore,
It sure is an ugly sight,
The noise from the drier was desperate,
It would keep you awake all the night,
They came up with some new idea
And silenced it down over night.
So if you ever come down the Village,
Drop in to the lounger for a pint,
Have a chat with the grocer I mentioned,
He will send you away in delight.
For the people you will find very friendly,
They are working from morning til night,
If you come at the break of the dawning,
You are sure to stay on, til its night.
